Frequently Asked Questions About Driving for Citywide MSP

What kind of driving job is this?

This is a part-time, pre-scheduled driving job focused on private rides to and from MSP Airport. We’re not a taxi, shuttle, or rideshare app. All rides are booked in advance, you see your schedule ahead of time, and you’ll be driving our vehicles on mostly highway-based routes.

Most trips are airport runs, with occasional point-to-point rides. You’re paid for your on-duty time, and you’ll usually know your upcoming rides before the day begins.

You are paid $20 per hour based on “Google Maps Time,” plus tips. That means we use the Google-estimated time from our shop → to the customer → to the destination → and back to our shop to determine your paid hours. If Google Maps says the route takes 3 hours, you’re paid for 3 hours. If it says 2 hours and 45 minutes, you’re paid for 2 hours and 45 minutes. If Google Maps shows anything under 2 hours, you are still paid a minimum of 2 hours.

Who is this job a good fit for?

This role is ideal for retired or semi-retired adults – or anyone who wants a low-stress way to stay busy, be useful, and earn some extra money without taking on full-time work.

If you like driving, enjoy friendly conversation, and appreciate a flexible schedule where you can say “yes” or “no” to rides based on your availability, you’ll probably enjoy this work.

While many of our drivers are retired, we welcome adults of all ages who are comfortable driving in to or from the MSP Airport.

How many hours per week can I work?

We’re looking for people who want roughly 3 to 10 hours per week. There’s a lot of flexibility from week to week, but this is not a full-time position.

You’ll tell us your general availability (for example, “weekday mornings” or “a couple evenings and a Saturday here and there”) and we’ll offer you rides that fit the windows you prefer.

Do I need to use my own car for this position?

No. You’ll be driving our vehicles, and we cover the fuel for your trips. You do not need to use your own personal car for Citywide MSP rides.

You do, of course, need a valid driver’s license and a clean, safe driving record. We’ll go over all the details during the screening process.

How much does the job pay?

The position pays $20.00 per hour based on Google Maps Time (with a 2-hour minimum), plus tips from guests.

Because rides are pre-booked and often airport-related, guests frequently appreciate the service and many choose to tip. Your total earnings will depend on how many hours you choose to work and how many rides you accept.

Where are the rides, and how long is a typical trip?

Our core focus is travel to and from MSP Airport. Many rides start or end in the north metro and surrounding communities, with occasional longer-distance trips.

The average ride is about 3.5 hours round-trip based on Google Maps Time, and we have a 2-hour minimum. Some days you might do a single longer run; other days you might have multiple shorter rides depending on bookings and your availability.

Do I need to live near Blaine, MN?

Yes. For this position, it’s important that you live within roughly 15 miles of Blaine, Minnesota.

That keeps your commute to vehicles and starting points reasonable and helps keep your overall time commitment in a comfortable range, especially for early-morning or late-evening airport runs.

What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?

You do not need prior professional driving or limousine experience, although that’s always a plus.

You should:

  • Have a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record
  • Be comfortable driving to and from MSP Airport Cities
  • Be punctual, reliable, and polite with guests
  • Be able to lift and handle luggage as needed

If you already enjoy driving and have a reputation for being on time and dependable, you’re probably the kind of person we’re looking for.

What does a typical shift look like?

A typical shift might be a single pre-scheduled airport run, or a small cluster of rides, depending on bookings and your availability. For example:

  • Early-morning ride from the north metro to MSP and back
  • Midday pickup at MSP bringing guests home
  • Evening run for a returning family or business traveler

You’ll know the details ahead of time, so you can plan your day around the rides you accept.
